    USTDA Promotes Smart Grid in Kazakhstan

    The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) awarded a grant to the Kazakhstan electricity distribution company, JSC Alatau Zharyk (AZHK), to provide a feasibility study on a distribution automation project in the Almaty region. The grant was signed yesterday at AZHK's offices in Almaty by U.S. Consul General Michael G. Snowden on behalf of USTDA, and by AZHK Chairman of the Board Muhit Umbetov..

    May 2, the U.S. Mission in Kazakhstan had a handover ceremony of 28 vehicles worth $378,751 from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Counternarcotics (CN) Program to the Canine Center of the Customs Control Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Five GAZ canine vans and 23 Lada/Niva canine cars will be distributed amongst canine units across Kazakhstan..

    About 150 elementary school and college students from all over Kazakhstan swarmed the Uni Mobile Library at the Bobek Education and Rehabilitation Center in Almaty on Wednesday, April 24. The Uni, a joint project of the U.S. Consulate General and State Children’s Library, will spend a week at the Bobek Center, where the children will have a chance to explore its collection of books..

    April 4 in Astana and April 6 in Almaty dance-technology group iLuminate gave performances in two capitals of Kazakhstan as part of Arts Envoy Program, funded by the U.S. Department of State. During their visit, iLuminate dancers were also involved in other activities including judging a hip-hop dance “battle,” meeting children from orphanages, giving master classes at local dance schools..

    The Office of Military Cooperation in the U.S. Embassy had a handover ceremony of mobile training kits worth over 32,000 USD to KAZCENT - Partnership for Peace Training Center on March 15 in Almaty. The ceremony took place at KAZCENT PfP Training Center with the participation of the KAZCENT Commander, Colonel Oleg Essenov, Chief of the Office of Military Cooperation in Astana, Major Justin Colbert..

    At the invitation of the U.S. Mission to Kazakhstan, Dr. J. Gregory Payne, one of the foremost experts in crisis communication and public diplomacy, conducted a series of workshops from February 28 to March 5 in Almaty. Dr. Payne, an associate professor at Emerson College in Boston, met with local governmental agencies and authorities who regularly deal with emergency situations..

    Visiting Scholar Talks about Cultural Heritage of the Silk Road at the Almaty American Corner

    January 23 a Visiting Scholar at the Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages (named after Abylai Khan) visited the American Corner in Almaty and gave a talk on the Cultural Heritage of the Silk Road. Adam Grode’s speech focused on the rich traditions of the Silk Road, and his experiences in Russia and Central Asia. After his talk he performaned on a Kazakh dombra..

Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program

  • 2014-2015 Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program U.S. Mission in Kazakhstan announces a new cycle of Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program for 2014-2015 academic year. The Fulbright Visiting Scholar program brings accomplished Kazakhstani scholars to the United States to conduct advanced research at U.S. universities for a period up to one academic year. The application deadline is October 15, 2013.  

2014-2015 FLTA program

  • The Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program (FLTA) program is a nine-month, non-degree program.  FLTA participants will help strengthen Kazakh language instruction at a U.S. university or college and also interact with their host communities in conversation groups, extracurricular activities, and community outreach projects. The application deadline is June 2, 2013. 

2014-2015 Humphrey program

  • The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program provides accomplished young and mid-career professionals with ten months of non-degree academic study, leadership development, and professional enrichment in the United States to. Humphrey Fellows are selected based on their potential for leadership and commitment to public service either in the public or the private sector. The application deadline is July 15, 2013.
